Hi, I decided to take the P38 on a spin in the 1.24.7 Open Beta test server.
Why did I go there? I don't know, just for fun i guess, cruise, watching TV as I roll...
U dig?
The real Mont Blanc is 4,808.75 m (15,776 ft 9 in) high.. (in 2005)
(Source: Wikipedia)
I had seen pics of people around the Alps, flying or running around.
I decided to go see for myself, after all, I have been subscribed
to this game for about 2 years and I've never been there. :)
How do I know that's Mont Blanc you ask?
Well, I put a map waypoint on these coordinates:
N 45° 50' 1.00" E 6° 51' 54.00 "
And flew there :)
I took a shot of the altimeter while "level" with the peak, it's posted below.
The altimeter is at around 3,8-3,9 kilometers of altitude.
That's a whole 1 kilometer less than the real Peak of Mont Blanc. :)
If you have spare time in your hands, fly there!
It's marvellous to skim the tops and zoom up and down the slopes..
Just beware the lock-up of controls in the P38..
I almost crashed in the first try :)
Why the '38?
Well:
It's fast and
It has enough fuel to go there and come back
Did I mention it's fast?
Something else I "tested" at the same time..
I flew the P-38 on MAX/MAX/WEP for all the time.
The sortie ended after 87 minutes had passed.
Unluckily I was in the Kitchen making a sandwich,
so I didn't see what ended the fligth.
Maybe the AF AIAAs killed my pilot or shotdown the plane,
since I set a flight path at 3k over enemy AF AIAAs to test the
Effects bug in the Live Beta.
I know I didn't run out of Fuel yet, almost a full third tank left..
But one thing is sure:
You can fly the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in WW2OL for 85 minutes on MAX/MAX/WEP, minimum.
Well, P38 is not the only plane that can fly maxmaxwep for "unlimited" periods
FW190 and Bf-110s are capable of this feat also.
